Robot vacuums make it easy to keep your entire home clean without much thought. After going through the initial setup and mapping phase, they can be scheduled to run automatically throughout the week. But if you’re living in a home with multiple floors, things can become a bit more complicated — not only will you have to physically move your robot up and down the stairs (none are yet capable of climbing steps), but you’ll need to map each floor separately.

How to create multiple floors with the Roborock Qrevo Curv

After creating the first map for your home, here’s how you can go about creating maps for additional floors.

Step 1: Open the Roborock mobile app.

Step 2: Find the Roborock Qrevo Curv on the main menu and select Enter .

Step 3: Select the ellipsis button at the top-right corner of your screen.

Step 4: Select Manage Maps .

Step 5: Find the Home Layout option and change it from Single-Level to Multi-Level .

Step 6: Select whether you’d like the robot to use Smart Recognition or Manual Selection for maps. Smart Recognition allows the robot to automatically detect which floor it’s working on while Manual Selection has you choose the map.

Step 7: Take your robot and place at a good staring point for your new map.

Step 8: Select Create New Map at the bottom of the screen. You’ll then be directed to open doors, remove any obstacles, and to not pick up or move the robot while it’s scanning. Its sensors should prevent it from falling down the stairs, though it never hurts to place a physical barrier if you’re worried about it plunging to an untimely demise.

Step 9: Once the mapping process is done, it’ll return to its starting position. It’ll also tell you it was unable to find the dock — which should always be the case, as the dock is located on another floor.

Step 10: Move the robot vacuum back to the floor holding its dock, then press the Home button on the robot. It’ll then return to its base.

Up to four floors can be stored on the Qrevo Curv, giving you plenty of flexibility when it comes to cleaning your home.

iRobot reveals gigantic lineup of affordable Roomba robot vacuums
All the upcoming Roomba robots on display

iRobot is one of the most popular manufacturers of robot vacuums, and its lineup is about to grow much more enticing. Several new models will be up for presale on March 18 -- all of which feature prices under $1,000. That makes them affordable alternatives to expensive options like the Roomba Combo 10 Max or Roborock Saros 10R, both of which carry hefty price tags of around $1,500. This is the largest product launch in the history of iRobot (featuring eight products), and it’s designed to offer a solution for every budget.

The most expensive of the bunch is the Roomba Plus 505 Combo Robot + AutoWash Dock. Designed with dual rotating mop pads that can swing outward, 70 times more suction than the older Roomba 600 series, and a LiDAR system that should deftly maneuver your home day or night, it looks like a well-equipped robot for $999.

Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omni vs. Roborock Saros 10R: which robot vacuum is best?
The Saros 10R dock

If you’re shopping for a premium robot vacuum, you’ve probably stumbled across the Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omni and Roborock Saros 10R. Both are among the best robot vacuums money can buy, with an extensive list of features that makes the devices highly automated -- depending on how often you run them (and the size of your home), it’s not uncommon to go weeks without any manual input.

However, these two robot vacuums are radically different. Not only do they carry different price tags, but they also employ extremely different mopping techniques, different navigation systems, and they churn out different amounts of suction. That begs the question -- is the Saros 10R or X8 Pro Omni the better robot vacuum?

This popular robot vacuum now comes bundled with a cordless vacuum for better cleaning
The K10+ Pro and a cordless vacuum

SwitchBot, a company responsible for a variety of smart home gadgets, launched the K10+ Pro robot vacuum last August. Offering solid performance, a reasonable price tag, and a tiny footprint that reaches areas missed by larger competitors, it quickly became an easy recommendation for budget shoppers. Fast forward to today, and SwitchBot is now offering the K10+ Pro Combo -- a 3-in-1 vacuuming solution that pairs the robot with a cordless vacuum and auto-emptying base station.

Robot vacuums are an excellent addition to most smart homes, but they’re still not a full replacement for traditional vacuums. For example, they can’t yet clean stairs, and sensitive areas of your home are often easier to clean yourself (such as around expensive home décor or underneath desks littered with cables). That’s where the SwitchBot K10+ Pro Combo comes into play, as you can clean these areas with the cordless vacuum while the K10+ Pro handles the rest of your home.
