How to Choose a Laptop on Prime Day

With even the worst laptops becoming quite reasonably specced these days, it’s relatively easy to find a general-use laptop. Something like 8GB of RAM is pretty reasonable, as is an Intel i5 or Ryzen R5 CPU, especially if you’re mostly going to be streaming stuff online and doing general day-to-day work. At that point, it becomes a matter of whether you want something small and lightweight, like a 2-in-1 laptop, or if you want a big screen with lots of power behind it, like some of the best laptops .

On the other hand, if you’re looking for something more specific, it will come down to what you need. For example, the best laptops for engineers and the best laptops for photo editing and photographers tend to both need a good amount of RAM (16GB or more) and a GPU, especially if you’re an engineer who uses a lot of rendering for your work. If you’re aiming for gaming laptops , then you’re going to want a powerful GPU to game with, and 16GB of RAM becomes the minimum, as well as a larger hard drive for storage, given how massive games are these days.

If you’re still unsure what to grab, we do have a laptop buying guide you can check out to give you some extra tips.

How We Chose These Laptop Prime Day Deals

When it comes down to it, laptops are incredibly varied when it comes to specs, so it’s often hard to do a holistic comparison of all the options and find the one that gives you the best return on your investment. That said, we do have several decades of combined experience when it comes to laptops of all varieties, and we’ve reviewed hundreds of laptops from pretty much all the brands. As such, we can lean heavily on our own experience and expertise to know if a certain configuration is worth the asking price and if any deal on it is actually offering you value.

We also have some tools at our disposal that let us look at things such as historical pricing and direct comparisons between products, so we can ensure that any deal we put on this page is going to be the best we can find.
