How to delete your Netflix history

There are plenty of reasons you might want to clear your Netflix viewing history. Thankfully, the process for doing so is incredibly simple — even if it’s not immediately apparent. Everybody has streaming skeletons in their closets, so go ahead and clear yours out.

Step 1: First, log in to your Netflix account on your computer. Because your viewing history is specific to your profile, you’ll need to make sure you choose the right one if there are multiple users under your login. If you accidentally select the wrong profile, don’t worry. You can choose a different one using the drop-down menu in the upper-right corner.

Step 2: Next, head to the aforementioned drop-down menu in the right corner and select the button labeled Account .

Step 3: Once there, scroll down to the Profile & Parental Controls section , and click the blue link labeled View next to Viewing Activity . This will take you to a page showing everything you’ve watched.

Step 4: To the far right of each entry will be a cancel sign. Hover over the symbol, and you’ll see the text Hide From Viewing History .

Clicking this will remove the entry from your history (and, thus, eliminate any impact it may have had on your personalized recommendations). It may take up to 24 hours for the change to take effect, though.

Something to keep in mind: For television shows, each episode is listed individually, labeled by season and episode title. Clicking the Circle-Backslash icon on a single title will remove only that specific episode. But you don’t have to do this tedious task for every episode because a prompt will pop up asking if you want to delete the entire series from your history, which you can do with one click.

Step 5: If you want to delete your entire viewing history in one fell swoop, now you can. If you scroll to the end of your viewing history, there will be an option to Hide All. Click that, then choose Yes, Hide All My Viewing Activity on Netflix’s confirmation pop-up. After 24 hours, Netflix will erase your history.

And that’s all there is to it. Your viewing history, or just your guilty pleasure shows, will be deleted from your account.

Netflix has your next fall binge series with The Diplomat season 2 trailer
A woman sits in the middle of another woman and man.

In The Diplomat season 2 trailer, Keri Russell shakes things up as she investigates a conspiracy that leads to the top of the British government.

The sophomore season begins in the waking moments of the season 1 finale, where an explosion nearly kills Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell). However, the footage reveals that Hal survived. That doesn't change the fact that someone wanted him dead. Who might that be? That's a question for Ambassador Kate Wyler (Russell).

This might be Netflix’s most disturbing movie. Here’s why it’s still so effective
Two men look down in "The Platform."

In 2019, The Platform premiered in theaters and became one of Netflix's most-watched original films the next year. Directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, this Spanish dystopian thriller follows people imprisoned in a "Vertical Self-Management Center," a tower in which a platform provides food to people on each floor once a day, starting at the top, creating desperation and conflict among the inmates. The film specifically focuses on Goreng (Iván Massagué), who voluntarily admits himself to this prison in exchange for a college degree only to start a revolution from within.
Following the film's tremendous success on streaming during the pandemic, The Platform has returned to the spotlight with a sequel premiering on October 4. Now that this exciting follow-up has descended onto Netflix, here's why audiences should catch up on the original film to prepare for the next course.

5 movies leaving Netflix in August 2024 you have to watch now
Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man 2.

The summer might be ending, but Netflix is still using this time to release blockbusters. One of the streamer's latest offerings is The Union, an action comedy starring Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry. If espionage is not your thing, you can pivot to other action spectacles, including Logan Lucky, Damsel, and Mortal Kombat.

While the previously mentioned movies will remain on the streamer for the foreseeable future, a select group of movies are departing the service at the end of the month. This is the last chance to watch these films on Netflix this month. Make it a point to watch these five movies before August ends. Our picks include a 1990s comedy, a spectacular superhero adaptation, and a sweet coming-of-age story.
