Happy Gilmore 2: Production on Adam Sandler’s golf sequel begins

Everyone’s favorite golfer is coming back for another adventure. Production on Happy Gilmore 2 has officially begun.

Adam Sandler returns for the sequel as Happy Gilmore, a wannabe hockey player who discovers a godlike ability to hit a golf ball. Happy joined the PGA Tour to raise funds to save his grandmother’s house from foreclosure. While Happy’s unorthodox behavior angers golf traditionalists, his exuberance attracts more viewers as he becomes a fan favorite.

Two stars from Happy Gilmore have already been confirmed for the sequel. Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin and Julie Bowen as Virginia Venit will return in Happy Gilmore 2 . Shooter is a talented golfer and Happy’s archrival. Shooter hates Happy’s unprofessionalism and makes it his mission to remove him from the tour. Meanwhile, Virginia is the PGA Tour’s PR specialist tasked with reshaping Happy’s image. She later becomes Happy’s love interest.

Benito Martínez Ocasio, aka Bad Bunny, has been cast in an undisclosed role. Happy Gilmore 2 is the latest pivot into acting for Ocasio, who will also appear in Darren Aronofsky’s crime thriller Caught Stealing . Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce will also make a cameo in the sequel.

Happy Gilmore 2 is directed by Kyle Newacheck based on a screenplay by Sandler and Tim Herlihy. Newacheck previously worked with Sandler on Netflix’s Murder Mystery . Herlihy is Sandler’s frequent collaborator and co-author on many of the comedian’s films, including Happy Gilmore , Billy Madison , The Waterboy, and Hubie Halloween.

Released in February 1996, Happy Gilmore grossed over $41 million on a $12 million budget.

Happy Gilmore 2 will stream on Netflix. It does not have a release date.

Godzilla x Kong sequel adds The Last of Us season 2 star to cast

The sequel to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has found its next star.
Per Deadline, Kaitlyn Dever is in talks to join the next Godzilla x Kong entry in Legendary's MonsterVerse. The new movie will continue centering the story around Kong and Godzilla as they interact with new human characters to face a "cataclysmic, world-ending threat." Grant Sputore will direct from a screenplay by Dave Callaham. Sputore replaces Adam Wingard, who directed the previous two Godzilla Kong movies.
Dever's star has been on the rise since 2019's Booksmart. Dever garnered Golden Globe nominations for her work in Netflix's Unbelievable and Hulu's Dopesick, with the latter resulting in an Emmy nod. Dever will next headline Netflix's Apple Cider Vinegar, a Netflix series about an Australian scammer who launched a media empire by lying about a cancer diagnosis. Apple Cider Vinegar streams on February 6, 2025.

After Apple Cider Vinegar, Dever will appear in The Last of Us season 2 as Abby, one of the most polarizing characters from the video game series. The HBO series returns for its sophomore season this April.

Carry-On continues to be a streaming juggernaut on Netflix. The holiday thriller is now the fifth-most-popular Netflix movie in the streamer's history, with 149.5 million views since its December 13 release.

Due to its popularity, questions about a sequel have gained traction. Carry-On director Jaume Collet-Serra revealed that talks with Netflix about Carry-On 2 have not happened, but he's open to the idea.
“We don’t have any plans for a sequel,” Collet-Serra said via Variety. “But if audiences wanted a sequel, families wanted a sequel, and if we had an idea that would spark and live up to the original, maybe we would do something. But right now, there are no plans.”
In Carry-On, Taron Egerton plays Ethan Kopek, a TSA officer working at Los Angeles International Airport on Christmas Eve. While working the security line, Ethan finds an earbud and converses with an unknown person, the Traveler (Jason Bateman). The Traveler orders Ethan to let a mysterious carry-on bag pass through security, no questions asked. If Ethan refuses, the Traveler will kill his pregnant girlfriend, Nora (Sofia Carson). Refusing to comply, Ethan races to find the Traveler, intercept the package, and prevent it from getting on a plane.
